How to Calculate a Percentage Discount

To find the sale price: multiply the original price by (1 โˆ’ discount%). For a 25% off $100 item: $100 ร— 0.75 = $75. To find the discount amount: multiply the original price by the discount percentage. This calculator also adds sales tax to show your true final cost.

Stacking Discounts

When two discounts apply (e.g., 20% off + extra 10% off), they don't simply add up to 30% off. A 20% discount followed by a 10% discount equals 28% total savings. The order generally doesn't matter โ€” the math works out the same either way.

Is 30% off a good deal?
It depends on the original price and whether it's genuinely discounted. Retailers sometimes inflate "original" prices before sales. Compare the discounted price to competing stores or the item's recent price history using tools like CamelCamelCamel (for Amazon) to verify the deal is real.
